For Anna Ritter, golf has always been more than a sport, it’s been a passion rooted in family and joy. Introduced to the game by her father, Anna’s journey began at the age of six during a golf camp at a local country club. “I loved every second of the camp,” Anna recalls. “Getting to play the game with other kids my age was so fun, and I loved how you could be so competitive with the game.” Inspired by her father’s unwavering dedication and positivity, Anna’s journey as a golfer has been shaped by his encouragement to enjoy every moment, even during stressful times. “When times are stressful, I try to be grateful for all the opportunities I have and find joy in every moment,” Anna shares.
A typical day for Anna starts early around 5:30 a.m. After a team lift, she goes to her classes, practices, and does her homework, all while staying motivated by her love for the game and appreciation for the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level. “In order to stay motivated, I just try to remember how lucky I am to have this opportunity,” Anna explains. Managing a packed schedule as a student-athlete is no small accomplishment, but Anna has developed a strategy that works. “Managing my time is really important in order to stay on top of everything,” she explains. Staying organized with agendas and calendars helps her keep track of academic and athletic commitments. “I try to stay present every day and focus on the task in front of me. For example, I don’t waste my time thinking about practice when I’m taking a test, or about an assignment when I should be practicing,” she says.
Anna’s confidence on the putting green is unmatched. “Putting has always been easy for me; I find it relaxing and enjoy practicing it the most,” she said. This offseason, she is challenging herself to improve her chipping to become more prepared for the spring competition that lies ahead. Anna has her sights set on a professional golf career after college, a dream she has had since she was a child. “I’m looking forward to that point in my golf career, as it’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” she said with determination.
For those hoping to follow in her footsteps, Anna advises patience and self-compassion. “You’re going to make mistakes, whether in your sport, the classroom, or the gym, but that’s why you’re here: to learn and get better,” she emphasizes. With a packed schedule and a clear vision for the future, Anna Ritter exemplifies what it means to be a student-athlete. Her positivity, dedication, and love for the game are paving the way for a bright career in golf, and she continues to inspire others with her journey.
